Yesterday we decided to go to Neighbours night. During the day we went to St Kilda to find out where the pub was and have a look round again. The weather wasn't beach weather so after finding the pub we walked about and bought some lunch. Dan had McDonalds while I had a cake from the bakery. There were so many nice cakes it took me ages to choose.
We got back to the flat and got ready for the evening. My trousers had marks on them from not being rinsed properly when I hand washed them before so I had to quickly wash them and iron them dry. They were still a bit damp when we left but soon dried. We caught the tram we needed to but just missed the next one so had to wait 10 minutes but it was ok as we still arrived early. We got a drink and waited for the doors to open. Just after 6.30 we bought our tickets and I was first in the queue while Dan got his free half pint. Lucky I did queue up as the tour bus turned up along with loads of people! It meant we got the best seats right in front of the stage. We were sat with 2 Irish girls, Josephine and Karina, a couple of lads travelling on their own, Josh and Ben, and 2 lads travelling together, Graham and Dan. We chatted to them about where we'd been and what's good to do, like feeding the dolphins. We had some dinner which was very filling.
The guests arrived. First Safari Steve did a warm up thing to get everyone going and then they bought in Stuart, Donna and finally Karl. Stuart was gorgeous. Donna was very pretty but was very shy unlike her character she plays. Karl was very confident and we could tell he loved doing the nights. They answered some questions, using involving Sexual Health issues for Dr Karl. The other Dan on our table set up his mate Graham by asking Donna to marry him. She'd already been propositioned by another guy promising her his caravan and pig so Graham had a lot to beat. She said she'd consider it.
Karl came to our table first. We got his autograph, had photos and Dan asked him about the footy as we'd seen him on the train. He said he was a keen Essendon fan. It was brilliant. We then had the first round of the general knowledge quiz. We were doing well as a team, all getting a few questions, although I was the neighbours expert in the team! In between quiz rounds they had competitions. The first competition Graham took part in and had to snog a girl for ages. Luckily the girl was pretty and Graham was ok so it wasn't hard for either of them, although the girl complained about his beard! Donna told Graham he was dumped though. Steve said the prizes were for 2 people so I said to Dan I wanted to do the next competition so we could win a trip on the Great Ocean Road.
The next competition was singing the national anthem for your country. I knew I could do it so I went up. As luck would have it I was up against some Scots and an Aussie guy so it was easy. I made everyone stand up and sing along. It was brilliant even though I was shaking a bit. I knew I'd have the support of all the English and sure enough I won. I took the great ocean road tickets but sadly they weren't what we were led to believe. It's only for one person and I'd still have to pay $40. We later looked it up on the internet and for Dan to come with me it'd cost $115. A good prize if I was on my own but no good for the two of us. Oh well, it was still good fun doing it.
We had 2 more rounds of the quiz. We were texting Damelza as she was at home and could google it for us. During this time Donna and Stuart came round. I wanted Stuart to pose with Dan flexing his muscles but he wouldn't do it. When Donna came round we both had a photo with her but Dan told me later he wanted her all to himself, lol. It was good we got to see a current star and I like Donna. Declan was supposed to be there but he wasn't but we were happy with the 3 people we saw.
We came third in the quiz which was brilliant as there were probably about 20 teams in it. Our team name was Harold's bishop, which Dan thought of. It's rude but I didn't understand it. We didn't get anything for coming third but we were pleased with ourselves. They cleared away the tables and chairs and Karl's band, The Waiting Room, set up. They played really good songs and were very good. They played Living on a Prayer and Summer of 69 which made us both happy. My favourite part was Karl singing a song about Susan and his troubles with her. He loved it because he said normally they are in a studio without an audience so he enjoys seeing us enjoying it.
The band finished around 11.30 so we exchanged facebook details with our team mates and waited for the tram. We had to wait about 15 minutes for the first tram and then another 10 minutes for the second tram. Our ears were ringing and Dan had lost his voice from so much singing and shouting. It was a brilliant night. It's good for people who know a little bit about neighbours but also want a fun night out. I told Damelza about it and she said it's exactly the same every time she has been so I don't think I'd go again but I'd definitely recommend it to other people.
