Last night we went out for dinner. We went to Hogs Breath which is at the Marina. It’s a steak restaurant. We sat outside with a perfect veiw of the boats, well Dan had it because he made me move round so I had my back to them! I had steak and a chicken wrap with curly fries and salad. Dan had a mexican steak which was slow cooked for 18 hours. I tried some and it was really nice. Hannah kept entertaining us as usual. Jackie got bitten by a sand fly even though she had insect repellent on. When we got home Dan spoke to his family on a video call and I spoke to my mum on the phone. Dan watched a film but I didn’t like it so I went upstairs to read.
Today we didn’t have anything planned to do. Dan woke up and went on the internet. I woke up about 9am and we had breakfast. Dan went on the bus to Jackie’s hotel to pick up her car while I stayed behind and read some more. When Dan got back we got our swimming things and went to see Pepina. I needed my main backpack and a few other bits and pieces. Pepina was on the ramp with a big oil drum below her. No one was working on her but the other mechanic said they still hadn’t found the oil leak. I wasn’t impressed because it was obvious they weren’t working on her. We took a couple of photos of her ( Wai told us later that they were draining the radiator so I’ll let them off that they weren’t doing anything!). Dan had to climb up on a crate to get into the back of her. He forgot the top wasn’t up and banged his head on the roof. As a natural reaction he put his head forward and knocked his eye on the corner of the cupboard. He had a little lump on the corner of his eye but he was ok.
We drove to Mossman creak again but for a swim this time. Thomas warned us it was freezing cold and it was true. It helped Dan’s eye go down. It was very refreshing but it took our breathe away when we got in. We swam about and sat on the rocks. We swam up stream to the water fall and it was a really strong current. It was good exercise and then really good fun to just relax and let it carry us down stream. There were loads of perch and cat fish swimming about with us. There was also a Ulysses butterfly which is a really bright blue. We tried to take a photo of it but it kept moving so Dan took a video. It was like it was posing for us!
We didn’t stay in too long as it was so cold. We got out and felt invigorated. The water was so pure and not like swimming in the sea. We got changed by the car and then drove back to Mossman. We got some money from the ATM and headed back home. We ate our lunch of peanut butter and a bread which is like pitta bread. We had a cup of tea and then Dan went to pick Jackie and Tia up from work and Hannah from school.
Dan came back and picked me up so we could all go to the supermarket. We got some meat and things for the BBQ. Jackie was laughing at Dan’s driving. She said he wasn’t supposed to indicate on a round about and then other times she said he should have his “blinkers” on when he didn’t. I don’t think she felt comfortable when he was driving even though he was doing a good job.
Now we’re sitting round the pool, having a few drinks and waiting for the BBQ. The BBQ is for some New Zealand friends of Jackie and Thomas who are leaving after spending 3 months here. I think that tonight is going to be very funny. They are trying to convince Dan to shave his hair, not just a number 1 with the clippers but proper head shave with a razor like Thomas has. Watch this space to see what happens!
